The anniversary of Armistice Day was marked in a special way at Rose Hill Westonbirt School. During a meaningful and powerful assembly, the Head Boy, Head Girl and Head Prefect read war poetry and prayers. The Last Post was played movingly on the cornet by Westonbirt School girl, Harriet Smith, followed by the two minute silence.

The highlight of the service was a presentation from Sergeant Damien Heartford, an RAF dog handler. He delighted the children (and parents) by bringing in Sooty, a young dog that is in training to become a sniffer dog, preparing for active service in Afghanistan. Sgt. Heartford related stories about how invaluable the sniffer dogs are in seeking explosive devices, and helping to track down the enemy when clearing buildings and compounds in Afghanistan. Thanks to the highly trained sniffer dogs, countless lives of British forces have been saved. Strangely, the highly-trained sniffer dog appeared to find something of interest in the Headmasters laptop. Hopefully nothing potentially explosive?!

At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month the whole school paused to join the national two-minute silence and a token of respect was laid at the foot of our beautiful Cedar tree by the Head boy and Head girl.
