Goughs Solicitors are delighted to announce that three of the leading Catholic schools in Wiltshire, St Augustine's Catholic College in Trowbridge, St Edmund's Primary School in Calne and St Joseph's Primary School in Devizes

Goughs Solicitors are delighted to announce that three of the leading Catholic schools in Wiltshire, St Augustines Catholic College in Trowbridge, St Edmunds Primary School in Calne and St Josephs Primary School in Devizes are amongst the first faith schools in the county to achieve Academy Status.

All three schools were rated by Ofsted as either outstanding or good with many outstanding features and will convert to Academies on September 1st 2011.

Goughs worked closely with the schools throughout the entire process advising on all aspects of legal services, including transfers of assets, funding arrangements and employment issues. The firm continues to build upon its excellent track record of working with schools and colleges to assist with the conversion process.

Becoming an Academy provides a range of benefits not only to the schools involved, but also to the wider community itself. The schools have greater control over their curriculum and finances, providing pupils with a more focused and rounded education and are able to source goods and services locally.

In order to encourage all Wiltshire Catholic schools (academies and non-academies) to forge stronger links and work more closely together The Wiltshire Catholic Schools Partnership has recently been formed. The Partnership offers something unique to Catholic schools and aims to take a common approach to chaplaincy, to support each other in leadership and to promote the common good.

Ian McNiff, Director of Department for Schools and Colleges in the Diocese of Clifton believes that "Part of the commitment of being a Catholic school in the Diocese of Clifton is to work for the common good of all schools within the diocese. This has led to a strong sense of identity and partnership working both within and across local authority areas. We are very proud of the achievements of all our Catholic schools. The success of our schools is in no small measure, due to the sense of ownership provided by our Catholic communities and parishes. All have made a major contribution to ensuring that our schools remain committed and focused on its core vision and purpose.

In Wiltshire a number of our schools have converted to Academy status to further strengthen that sense of partnership. In that conversion process they have sought to both maintain and promote their Catholic identity which in turn has led to continued success for pupils and their families. We look forward to the extension and building up of that network across our Wiltshire Catholic schools and their continued success in the future"

Joe Alsop, Head Teacher of Saint Augustines commented Our outstanding Ofsted rating and conversion to Academy status is a clear indication of our pro-active approach to education. We have built a good working relationship with Goughs throughout this process and would happily recommend their services.

Mike OKeefe, Head Teacher of St Edmunds Primary School said We are delighted to gain Academy status as it clearly demonstrates that we provide not only excellent teaching but also an outstanding curriculum. We are grateful to Goughs for their hard work and dedication shown throughout the conversion process".

Sheila Jones, Head Teacher of St Josephs Primary School said We are proud to be the first faith school in Devizes and believe this further underlines our vision of St Josephs as an innovative school which enables all pupils to achieve their full potential. We were very pleased with our decision to instruct Goughs, who fully justified our decision to use a local firm.

Goughs encourages all schools who are considering applying for Academy status to contact Gabby Corp or Kevin Basnett on 01249 812086 to discuss the legal and practical implications or to arrange a no obligation meeting.
