Goughs, one of Wiltshires leading law firms, would like to congratulate Churchfields Academy, Swindon who became one of the first schools in Swindon to achieve Academy status on 1st September 2011.
Churchfields has a long tradition of providing high quality education, specialising in Maths, Computing and Science and caters for approximately 1000 students aged between 11-16. The school offers a distinctive learning community, within a friendly and purposeful atmosphere, ensuring students are prepared for todays technological world.
Goughs formed a close working relationship with both the school and the local authority advising on all aspects of employment, staff transfers and crucially, the asset transfer agreement. Goughs continues to build upon their excellent track record of working with schools to help achieve Academy status.
Academy status will bring the school not only greater autonomy, but also increased freedoms such as curriculum freedom, Churchfields can now decide which subjects should be studied and greater control over the schools budgeting and purchasing.
Steve Flavin, Headteacher of Churchfields Academy said We are delighted with this achievement. Our conversion to an Academy is in the best interests of the students, the staff and the local community. We are now able to work more closely with parents, governors and all those who have an interest in the school, allocating additional funding to support our students learning and life chances. This year Churchfields achieved record examination results with 93% achieving 5 good grades at GCSE. Academy status will support the schools vision to become the best secondary school in Swindon.
Goughs has been instrumental throughout the legal process and have advised us clearly, concisely and constructively. We are more than happy to recommend their services to other schools who are thinking of converting to an Academy.
Goughs encourages all schools who are considering applying for Academy status to contact Gabby Corp or Kevin Basnett on 01249 812086 to discuss the legal and practical implications or to arrange a no obligation meeting.
