Wine tasting at Whatley Manor - South African Wines with Paul Clver, Tuesday, 15th May

More wine is on the menu this May when the Western Cape comes to Whatley Manor with Paul Clver. The eponymous owner of Winery Paul Clver will be hosting a wine-tasting event to introduce his outstanding wines from the Elgin Valley, which lies to the south-east of Cape Town. The estate has been in the Clver family since 1896 and is situated within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve. Here, conservation goes hand-in-hand with the sustainable use of natural resources and the winemakers have striven to harness the diversity of soils and micro-climates on the estate to develop a range of distinctive and elegant wines. The evening will allow guests to taste different wines and learn about how they are made, while Head Chef Martin Burge will prepare a special three-course menu to complement each wine's special flavours. Participation costs 75 per person and includes a welcome reception and 'wine & dine' in Le Mazot, followed by coffee and petit fours.

Easter at Whatley Manor

Nothing says 'Easter' quite like a delicious, rich chocolate egg - but this year, Whatley Manor is offering budding chocolatiers the chance to go one better and make their own hand-made Easter confections. Michelin two-starred chef Martin Burge invites guests to join his Easter Egg Masterclass, an insightful afternoon where participants can learn about the art of chocolate as they prepare decadent chocolate truffles and their very own Easter masterpiece. There are two events planned for this Easter (Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd April), with participation costing 125 per person, to include ingredients, tuition, refreshments and a Wiltshire cream tea served in the Drawing Room - plus a souvenir apron and of course guests' very own chocolate creations to take home.

Then for the Easter weekend itself (6th-9th April, 2012), Whatley Manor has prepared a special three-night package to tempt guests to treat themselves to a springtime countryside escape. Costing from 1,095 per room (based on two sharing a Standard Room), the package includes three nights' B&B accommodation, full use of the award-winning facilities at Spa Aquarias, a home-made Easter egg and a welcome gift from Whatley Manor's gardens. And as a special Easter gift, those guests wishing to extend their stay can avail themselves of a fourth night offered on a complimentary basis (including breakfast).

Of course, not everybody these days has the time to take an extended Easter break, so Whatley Manor also offers non-residents the chance to enjoy fine Easter dining at Le Mazot brasserie. A special Good Friday set lunch menu (served on Friday, 6th April) costs 32 per person; Easter Sunday lunch (with chocolate truffles) is available for 41 per person; and a set lunch menu on Easter Monday is available for 32 per person.
