We are all much more security-conscious than we were 30-40 years ago, and for good reason. Long gone are the days where one could nip to the local shop and not worry about whether we left the doors and windows to our home unlocked or open.

We are all much more security-conscious than we were 30-40 years ago, and for good reason. Long gone are the days where one could nip to the local shop and not worry about whether we left the doors and windows to our home unlocked or open.

We find that while people are more conscious of securing their home, and do so by fitting alarms and replacing doors and windows, the garage door is one area that is often overlooked. This is odd when you consider the majority of garages are home to a lot of expensive possessions ─ from tools and garden machinery to sporting equipment such as bikes and golf clubs ─ all of which rank highly on thieves shopping lists. This, along with the fact that the majority of older garage doors (and even some newer doors out there) are accessible in seconds, without the need for special tools or knowledge, makes the garage or outbuilding an Aladdins cave for thieves.

Even more worrying is that for a lot of homeowners the garage is integral and provides a direct link through to the home via a basic internal door. Essentially thieves have easy access via the garage door, and once out of sight can force entry into your home by using your own tools and equipment, such as step ladders.

Having liaised with local crime prevention officers, as well as seeing time and time again the financial and emotional effects these burglaries have on homeowners, we have built up an understanding of the issues. This knowledge, in conjunction with 20 years experience in the garage door industry, allows us to offer honest, impartial advice on the best products and methods to secure your home.
